This question came up a lot yesterday in emails to me and in comments....
Can you follow a blog if you don't have your own blog?

Yep, not a problem. I don't have a blog. I set up an account with google (I even had a yahoo e-mail address when I originally set it up and it didn't matter). At the top of your blog screen it says sign in (or out) click on that and it will take you to the google sign in screen - then set up your account. Then you click on follow - it will add that blog to your "dashboard" so now all you have to do is go to your google dashboard and the lasted posts to all the blogs you are following are right there to preview.

Yes! I see people commenting/following my blog all the time. I think they just need a google profile but I don't know the specifics. I am sure some one more techie than me can give you more specifics.

ReplyDeleteyep, I don't have a blog. Click on the "sign in" in the top right hand corner - create a google account (with whatever your e-mail is - I used to have a yahoo e-mail it worked just fine). Then click on the follow button at the top left side - this will add the blog to your dashboard. Now you can go to your dashboard (saved this as a favorite) anytime and see a preview of all the posts to the blogs you are following.
ReplyDeleteYes, I do it all the time. I only run into trouble commenting on some blogs because they don't offer the Anonymous, or Name/URL option for leaving a comment. But I can follow with an e-mail account usually.

ReplyDeletemore questions for Julie: I can follow the blogs, but can't be a member unless I have a ggogle account. If I sign up for the account how much are you bothered with ads? If google adds a "cookie" and the the advertisers add their "cookies", in addition to the other sites I visit and thier cookies.. how much more vulnerable am I to the spammers and other unwanted events? I try to keep my cyber space presence as low-key as I can while still trying to enjoy the things the internet offers. Ps... I don't even know what a "dash board" is...

I understand you can sign up to get a Google Account, but there are those of us (like me) who do not like Google whatsoever & refuse to sign up for any account with them or use their search engines for privacy reasons, etc. ;) Heck, I won't even sign up with Facebook or Twitter either.
