ReplyDeleteWhen originally ordered, the request was for a "good bell of about two thousand pounds weight." The bell cracked the first time it was tested.
ReplyDeleteThe bell was recast, however, Philadelphians did not like the sound.
The Liberty Bell is the result of the second recasting. It weighs 2,080 pounds.
