Sunday Freebie.........

I spent a good amount of time in Hobby Lobby yesterday, and was very disappointed in  how they ring up your items.  Seriously....who has a system where you have to look up each item on the paper ad and see if it is on sale, then calculate the discount.  That was freaking tediously unbelievable.  Not only does it take 
f o r e v e r  to have  your items rung up that way.....but the checker missed most of the discounts.  Thank goodness I had written down the totals after the discount and knew which ones were missing that percentage.  Do all Hobby Lobbies function like this....or am I the lucky one that has one doing business in the dark ages?

  3. Thank you for the wonderful saying. Maybe she was new, but then again sometimes the hobby lobby near us does the same thing at times. I always check to make sure that all the items on sale ring up as such too.

  5. The one in Flint Michigan functions just like that as well - they all must function in the same way - think of what the poor checkers have to go through each time there is a sale - must be a nightmare.

  6. My pet hate is No prices at all on products and you don't know till later when you check the bill that items had been reduced. Makes you wonder how they stay in business sometimes. Love the sentiment, thank you x

  7. I stopped going ther when the owners put their religious beliefs on their employees. The larges amount of employees are women. Owners beliefs afford employees medical insurance. Wages are not high for these women who may single moms.

Paulette, I have traveled some in the past 8 yrs, and have frequented Hobby Lobby stores in Ohio (SEVERAL DIFFERENT ONES), Virginia, North Carolina, Florida (SEVERAL DIFFERENT ONES)and now Texas (several in the Houston vicinity.) MOST are still working as you put it, "in the dark ages," however I have been to a few that actually have scanners! Hope is always a factor that they all will eventually "get with the program".

  11. The Hobby Lobby's I've shopped in in Louisville, Ky and Birmingham - Jefferson Cty. Al have all been in the dark ages. One reason i stopped going there.

  13. The son of the owner convinced him to try scanners, but Dad didn't like it, so no scanners. They are still on the old fashioned way and it is a pain. I do what you do and make a list and mental note of those items on sale and let them know at the register. Mr. Allen in Austin, TX knows his stuff, so I will usually wait in his line even if there is a shorter line so I know I get things rung up correctly.

  14. how funny, I woke up from a nap thinking that even though I'm hurting (pain), I could still create something to make the house look better for when I feel better. It gave me renewed motivation to get in my studio - and now I have a digi to remind me why I'm here!

  15. We don't have Hobby Lobby here in NZ but that does sound very frustrating and behind the times. Okay if they know their prices but having to check an ad as they go - too slow! Thanks for the word art.

  16. I doubt if I'll return to H. Lobby, no prices on the items makes it difficult to check your receipt. Glad I'm not the only one that thinks this is strange.
    However, I have to admire the owner for standing up for his beliefs. Agree or disagree, he's "standing", most of us are doing nothing. Off the soapbox and on to thank you for the sentiment, thank you, Paulette.

  17. Thank you for the wonderful quote, it definitely gives one a deep thought on what they can do.

    As for Hobby Lobby, I thought our store was the only one like that. It just opened 1-15-15, they didn't have much stock, they still don't, and old cash registers, lol. I was convinced it only happened here in Maine but I guess you are unlucky with them too. I just find it easier to go to the small craft store.

  19. First let me thank you for the wonderful sentiment. And second yes the Hobby Lobby's around here work the same way. I almost always leave there where I wasn't given the sale price. And another gripe of mine is when you buy a Spellbinder Die they have to call back to the office and wait for someone to bring it up to the register. Same with Copics someone has to bring it up to the front. Then everyone in line looks at you like why are you causing problems. Drives me crazy....lol joann

Great sentiment, thanks :-) I used to teach art, the place I bought my supplies (for self and students) from had EVERYTHING in a book - if you were buying something retail all okay as the price was on the product, but if you got a discount (as I did) everything got "looked up" in the book because my price was calculated at cost plus rather than retail minus discount; the biggest problem was the owner of the store indexed everything into the book himself and if for example he got blue transfer paper in it could be under anything from "blue" to "specialty paper" to the brand name.... and if he got the same product in another day he may index it differently!! I'm sure it worked well back in the day when HE worked in the ONE shop, but by this time he was retired and had four shops all working to this "system". I don't know if they've computerized now, I stopped teaching art and 'found' cardmaking :-)) It is only two years ago though, so not back in the dark ages, lol Donna xx

  25. We don't have one near us, so I haven't been there often. The only place we can get cardmaking supplies or scrapbooking supplies is Walmart. The few craft stores we've had in the past closed. :(

  26. Thanks for the wonderful Word Art. I always shop at Hobby Lobby as there's always a wonderful 50% off their brands of paper crafts, embellishments and stamps. When I go there, I don't encounter much problem because I usually give them the items that are discounted and looks at the register if they ring them correctly. I don't know about those that says they don't find the price on the product as our stores here have a prize on each of the item. Occasionally, if I find one, I ask first before I buy it. Sometimes, the cashier are not familiar with discounts (at the beginning of the sale dates or their new to the store) but I politely remind them or point out to them that it's on discount. There was a time when I was not allowed to use the coupon in my tablet after my son showed the coupon from it to make his purchase. That is went and complain because I know it was not right. Paper coupon cannot apply to multiple people buying as they each have to have their own coupon but I don't have to have two or multiple devices to just show the discount on the online coupon just for my son and I to get the same discount. The manager came and apologized for the mistake of the cashier so, it all ended well. Even though their system is a bit slow, it all goes well if they have an experienced cashier. As to their stand in faith, I am happy that the owner stands for what they believe in and is not swayed by government or media threats. A business owner has the right to set his own rules and if someone does not agree, then they should not give them their business. I do that to other stores that pushes a liberal/ungodly agenda. I don't give them my hard earned dollars but I don't criminalize them just to conform with mine. Just saying!

  28. I read with quite a lot of interest the various experiences people have had with Hobby Lobby. So many commented on THIS post (LOL) . . . A Hobby Lobby Store opened about 45 minutes to an hour away in New Port Ritchey, FL. We went there and were really impressed with the prices, but it wasn't too long afterwards that they adopted the practices of JoAnn Fabrics and Michaels ~ namely that they price everything way above normal so that you really HAVE to use a coupon to bring the cost of an item down to reasonable levels. Here, Michaels allows one coupon per day, but it can be a Michaels or JoAnn coupon. JoAnn Fabrics allows multiple coupons, but they have to be different codes and only one can be from Michaels. Hobby Lobby only allows one coupon and it must be a Hobby Lobby coupon. The store in Lakeland (also 45 minutes to an hour away) is the same ~ and, oh yes, both are non-scan registers with manual input of discounts. Do you feel any better about your experience yet (ha ha)?!!
