Stair Accident, Ankle Dislocation & Fracture, Surgery :(


Hey guys. This is Bri, Paulette's daughter. I have a bit of sad news to share... Quite unfortunately, late last night, my mom missed the last step of the stairs. She managed to dislocate + fracture her ankle :'( The dislocation was absolutely evident...and she was in a lot of pain. The ambulance took her in.

She's scheduled for ankle surgery today. I am very, very worried about her recovery time. To those of you who would like to pray for her, wish her well, etc, please comment on this post. I'll be approving the comments so that she may see them when she's back at home.

    I hope for her that it is a "simple" fracture with a speedy recovery!!!!
    My hubby broke the calf multiple (with OP and Metal in the bone, but with no pain) and had a breaktime of 8month.
    I pray that Paulettes outtime is not so long!!! and that the pain is gone quick.

    Oh my goodness, that´s awful, and be sure we´ll have her in our thoughts and prayers here ofcause we do. I really hope, everything will go smoothly and she´ll have a speedy recovery without too many troubles of it either. Tell her not to worry and just take all the time she need and make sure, she´ll be completely fine, before she gets back to do anything at all, it´s definitely not to joke about with such an accident.     Remember to take the pain pills BEFORE they are needed! Much easier to stay ahead of the pain then to try and catch up. Praying for a swift recovery.

    So sorry to hear of Paulette's accident. I pray that her recovery will be quick and as pain-free as possible. I just had foot surgery and it will be a 6-8 week recovery...but the scooter has made it easier. Check out renting or borrowing one of those. Just be careful! Keep both hands on the bars! I hung a bag from the handle bars so I wouldn't be carrying things in one hand...tried that and fell. So just a word of warning! But they are great. :-)

    My heart goes out to your Mom, but tell her chin up (or should I say foot up!) and she will be back in business before she knows it.

    As encouragement for her I also suffered an open fracture dislocation to my right ankle in 2000. At that time the fracture was so bad that the ankle was totally crushed and had to be completely rebuild (bionic now!). The surgeon was not hopeful for a walking recovery in my case but I proved him wrong. Just remember to have her listen and do EXACTLY what the doctors tell her and have her start to strengthen her upper leg muscles as soon as she can. She is going to need them for when she is learning to walk. I hope she has a good support team at home to lend a hand - it will really help her. Hope to hear from you soon with regards to her surgery outcome and speedy recovery!

    Oh I'm so sorry to hear about this! I've broken both ankles,the first one was badly dislocated too and that was more painful than the actual break.Have a pin and plate in there permanently,and I will be praying for Paulette's surgery to happen very soon,also that it's completely successful.

    But... this just seems a little ironic with your last post being "doing a happy dance....". So I was just wondering if you were doing that 'happy dance' when walking down the stairs? Not a good thing to do on the stairs, LOL!

    I'm a little late in catching up on anything. I am so sorry to hear about your mama. How scary. I'm glad she's doing better. I pray that she continues to heal and will be able to get around on that scooter later. I pray that she will get stronger as each day goes by and that she gets waited on like a queen.

    the accident you had.
