SVG's are vector graphics, and if you use Sure Cuts A Lot with your Cricut machines, you can cut the graphics on your machine. If you check out www.svgcuts.com, Le and Mary (the store owners) have an abundance of information on SCAL, and they create and sell SVG collections. Hope you find all the answers you're looking for!
I just bought Make The Cut software and am starting to cut some things with my Cricut although mostly nestable shapes and embellishments. I just discovered on the weekend that I could create .svg files in Illustrator and I may play but I am teaching myself the program so it will be slow going.
I use SVG's for almost everything I make now! And I LOVE my Cricut! Between Inkscape and SCAL, I don't have to purchase any cartridges and can cut out any font or images I like!
I actually just finished putting together my first SVG from scratch using Inkscape. The easiest way to create one is going through Make the Cut. The Make the Cut forum has links to webinars that show you how to do this. If you need any help, you can e-mail me at Denise@purplepaperparadise.com.
I use mine with the MTC software(have the SCAL but prefer the MTC) all the time. Basically with the SCAL or the MTC softwares, if you create a jpg or png line drawing, these programs can trace it and then you can break it apart and paper piece patterns. Of course, simpler is better.

i use my cricut but i don;t have scal i use cricut design studio and i have lots of carts. but i use it without as well.

I would love GSD's for my Silhouette, sometime the SVG's do not convert over well.

ReplyDeleteI have a Cricut and SCAL and love them both! There are many free cut files out there and when I figure out how to use them I'll be a happy camper! LOL

ReplyDeleteI have 3 cricuts and SCAL do not know much at all about Inkscapes - trying to pick it up - not a lot of success - just don't understand nodes, etc...
